Stepping into Happiness

What makes you nervous?

Years ago, during my study time, I was very nervous. Always competed to be among the best. That didn’t make me only nervous but also very driven.

Some may say that it’s good to be ambitious and take the initiative. No doubt about that, but if you insist on going far beyond your limits, or if it happens over a long-time frame, then it’s not good for your inner balance. And this is exactly what happened to me. I forgot, or better said, neglected to think about what the essence of life and happiness is. That is not to be the best among others, but to know you gave your best and at least accept your individual progress as it evolves. Every one of us has their own pace in life, their purpose, which is not to be compared.

However, 2-3 years ago, when I started focusing on meditation and delving into astrology, I left behind this soul-wrenching attitude with each step. And the best side effect was that nervousness no longer bothers me.

This is a beautifully honest and reflective answer. Thank you for sharing it Vasos .

What strikes me most is your realization that nervousness wasn’t really about pressure—it was about comparison. And the courage it took to step away from that mindset, especially after being driven by it for so long, is truly admirable. Not many people pause to ask what the essence of happiness is, let alone change course because of the answer.

Your comment about “everyone having their own pace” is something many of us need to hear. It’s a gentle but powerful reminder that growth isn’t a race—it’s a personal rhythm. And the fact that you found peace not by doing less, but by redefining what “your best” means… that’s deeply wise.

You’ve turned a source of nervousness into a source of insight. That’s not just progress—that’s transformation.
