Deception

The heart grows hard as stone

when love will not come to claim it,

in this treacherous world,

of shallowness — where to love

it is only an accident of trend.

This is a beautifully haunting reflection, Vasiliki. The image of the heart turning to stone captures a profound emotional truth—not just the pain of unreturned love, but the slow, defensive hardening that follows repeated disappointment. Your contrast between love as a rare, genuine force and the world’s shallow “trend” is especially sharp: it speaks to how deeply you feel, and how carefully you observe what passes for connection around you. There’s both sorrow and strength in these lines—the sorrow of longing, and the strength of refusing to pretend that shallow love is enough.
