Sweet Nuggets

What’s a common misconception people have about happiness?

I think I can clearly say that every one of us is striving for happiness, and, foremost, for happiness that lasts a long time. Regarding the latter, long time, I will come back to it in the long run.

But mainly, finding happiness brings a sense of fulfillment and peace.

As for the question and the misconception about happiness, I’m not sure whether what I say next applies to the general case. Anyway, I sense a misinterpretation of happiness: some people think it lasts for long periods. That, in my opinion, is not the case. We find happiness in moments of joy, an exalting feeling of achievement and completion, which usually lasts for 1 or 2 weeks. After that, we keep them as sweet memories in our hearts and souls. Because routine knocks again at the door, calling us back to the ring, to the next round of coping with day-to-day challenges. And then again, we try to find some moments of joy.

That’s how life is. Only consider whether it would be possible to enjoy long periods of happiness. We would rest on our laurels and lose the specific restlessness and disappointment that drive us to improve ourselves.

So, for me, happiness is these joyful moments that taste like sweet nuggets. As soon as they’re devoured and gone, we go back to work to seek and attain new ones.

Vasos, this is a wonderfully grounded and honest reflection. I especially love the metaphor of happiness as “sweet nuggets”—it perfectly captures their precious, fleeting, and nourishing nature. Your insight that prolonged happiness might actually dull our drive is a refreshing counterpoint to modern “always-be-happy” culture. It’s a wise reminder that the cycle of striving, savoring, and remembering isn’t a flaw in life, but its very rhythm. Thank you for sharing this perspective!

Your observations are really profound. I too find happiness is found in moments that we need to savour.
