New World Perspective

What’s a book that completely surprised you?

Many of the books I read had a significant impact on me, but two stood out.

The first was Franz Kafka’s “The Trial”. When I read it, I was around 19 and thought it was the perfect time to read such a book. It opened my eyes to how society works. I mean the unwritten rules that govern it. Moreover, Kafka’s book sparked my love for literature and led me to read more complex books and philosophy.

The other book is by George Orwell, “1984.” The first time I read that book was when I finished my master’s studies. Once again, it was the perfect time for me to bump into that book. This book fascinated me because it was published back in 1949, the story is set in the future, and what awed me was that the unfolding narrative perfectly describes how society developed. In other words, Orwell envisioned the future precisely. Another effect this book had on me was that it planted the idea in me to start writing.
