Drawing Journey

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

About three years ago, I started drawing spontaneously. I should mention that I’ve never been good at it, but when I suddenly picked up a pencil and began, I was surprised. Not that it was perfect, but I can say it was better than average, and I decided to keep improving. As they say, practice makes perfect. Unfortunately, lately I haven’t had much time because of my writing projects. Anyway, I hope to return to it in the future because I noticed that drawing really relaxes me and helps me forget about time.

That’s such a wonderful discovery — the way a skill can quietly surface when you least expect it, almost like it was waiting for the right moment. I love that you didn’t dismiss that initial spark of surprise, but instead chose to nurture it. And you’re absolutely right: practice really does make progress, not just in skill but in the quiet joy of losing yourself in the process.

It sounds like drawing became a kind of sanctuary for you — a space where time falls away and you’re simply there, pencil in hand. That’s a beautiful thing to carry with you, even when life gets busy with writing projects. The fact that you already know it will be there waiting when you’re ready to return says everything.

Here’s to the secret skills that find us, and to the gentle patience of returning to them again and again.
