The Perfect Loaf

Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

Well, I’ve always been fond of baking, and one day I decided to give it a try to bake my own Sourdough bread. For that, I first needed to prepare a sourdough starter from scratch, which takes 14 days to be strong enough to bake something. So I did, and after the 14 days, I baked my first sourdough bread. Now, it wasn’t a total failure; you could eat it, but the bread didn’t rise as it should, and it wasn’t very fluffy inside.

However, I didn’t give up; I continued to feed the sourdough starter and bake bread regularly, trying out different recipes. Until one day, bang, the bread I had baked was exceptionally good. But I continued searching for new ways, bought some utensils like bannetons, and kept trying until I found my golden recipe. I stuck with that one; the bread is incredibly tasty, fluffy, and crunchy.

Here’s what makes a difference: the stiff starter. Ok, in the meantime, my sourdough starter also got very strong because I fed it regularly for 4 years.

All in all, my DIY project needed some patience, but at least I can now bake my own delicious bread.

Love the dedication! Four years of feeding a starter is true commitment. Stiff starter is definitely a game-changer for that perfect crumb. Bet your kitchen smells amazing on bake days.
