What was the last thing you searched for online? Why were you looking for it?
The last time I searched something online was yesterday, about whether I can cut the Fanouropita before taking it to church to be blessed.
Now, you may wonder what Fanouropita is.
Fanouropita is a cake dedicated to Saint Fanourios, which we, Greek-Orthodox, have. Fanourios is a Martyr for the Eastern Orthodox Church and was unknown until his icon was found on the island of Rhodes between 1355 and 1369 AD. The icon is a soldier holding a candle, and around this depiction are 12 representations of the martyrs he had gone through. It is assumed that he lived during the Roman Empire and sacrificed himself for the Christian belief.
Saint Fanourios is known for helping to find lost things; therefore, believers dedicate the Fanouropita to him and generally thank him for his protection. His Feast Day is on August 27th, and the day before, in the evening, there is an exceptional service where Christian believers bake the cake and bring it to the church for blessings. After that, the cake should be shared and served to the others.
Back at the beginning of this story, since yesterday was the 26th, I baked the cake, but wasn’t sure if it was allowed to be cut into pieces before it was blessed. Well, I searched for it online but didn’t find an answer. See, it’s proven, you can’t find an answer to everything on the internet. Anyway, I cut it, and when I arrived at the church, I saw that many others had done the same.
May you all receive the blessings of Saint Fanourios, as today is his feast day.
