Young Generation

What bothers you and why?

Watching and reading the news lately has made me seriously concerned about the younger generation. When I refer to the younger generation, it’s those aged 13-20.

Why?

The young generation has become very violent against fellow students, teachers, and even parents; they are bullying their fellows to the degree that the victims commit suicide. Almost a month ago, a 13-year-old boy hanged himself because his classmates mocked him for being different. Or a 17-year-old hit a 48-year-old on the head so severely that the victim fell into a coma. The 17-year-old knew martial arts.

They commit terrible crimes. A couple of weeks ago, there was a gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. She had been trapped on social media. The committers were 16, 17, 18, and 20 years old. I was shocked to hear the news. The girl is 14 years old; she’s a child.

Almost daily, these kinds of news happen. If it continues this way, it’s a disaster, it’s a complete failure of society. We should be alarmed and take action soon, and the major contributor to this development is social media. Since the young take videos of their terrible deeds and upload them on social media, presenting themselves as strong and heroes. And here begins the vicious circle: other youngsters admire them and want to imitate them.

    Dear Vaso,

Your post filled me with grief and alarm. The stories you shared are devastating. It’s hard to express the full horror of such news.

If these events occurred in Greece, as it seems, that likely makes them feel even more immediate and painful. But even from afar, these are tragedies no one should grow numb to. Each reflects a human loss and a troubling rise in unchecked aggression, peer cruelty, and the toxic influence of social media.

I agree—this points to something deeply broken. When violence is glorified and victims are left unprotected, society is failing. We must meet this with more than grief—with compassion, education, and real accountability.

Thank you for raising your voice.

    Warmly,
    David

      Hello David,
Thank you so much for the compassionate words. Lately, it’s terrible what’s going on, especially among young people. So much hate and violence, even killing.
It makes you realize that humans have become their own greatest enemy.
You’re right; in the field of education, immediate improvement is needed.
      Warm greetings from Greece.
      ~Vaso~ 🙏❤️

This is disconcerting for sure. As middle school and high school teacher I interact with many children of these ages. There are many issues with are concerning, but I also see a lot of hope .
