If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?
I’m very curious about how life was in ancient Greece, so I would like to travel back to this time frame.
Why?
It was a time when philosophy and science were still profoundly entwined. There was a balance between humanistic theoretical science and positive, progressive science. Philosophers and scholars started to examine, question, and derive conclusions about the laws of nature and society in a practical way, which led to further significant progression.
Which person would I like to be?
Well, I can’t decide between Aspasia and Aristotle.
Aspasia was the woman philosopher in classical Athens who opened an academy where other philosophers and influential men like Plato, Socrates, and Perikles gathered. Even if she was accused of being a prostitute, she had a significant influence since she had gained rare political wisdom and taught rhetoric. I don’t think much explanation is needed about Aristotle, as he’s still one of the most prominent philosophers today. But what intrigues me about him is that he was Alexander the Great’s teacher. Who doesn’t want to meet Alexander the Great or be his teacher? The most successful war leader in history.
