Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

Euronews

I think everyone is patriotic. Who doesn’t love their country, at least a little bit?

The point is that it shouldn’t reach an extreme sphere, so it doesn’t take the right extremist characteristics. This has happened in Europe in the last 5-10 years for other reasons.

What’s precisely what can make you proud of your country?

Your country’s history and historical personalities have even achieved remarkable fame worldwide, which are still up to date. Your language, if your native language you speak, impacts the terminology of science or other fields—architecture, literature, and generally the cultural background of your country and its appreciation by different nations and foreigners. Significant achievements from athletes or scientists from your country can also make you proud and patriotic.

For example, Greeks are very proud that democracy was born in ancient, classical Athens. However, when we refer to the ancient term democracy, it’s not precisely what we perceive as democracy nowadays.  Anyway, democracy had its first steps in Ancient Greece.

That’s what patriotic means to me—gross and whole. But as I mentioned above, this patriotic feeling should be kept in a healthy realm and not lead you to look down on other cultures because every culture has its precious value. World cultural heritage is a collection of many cultures that influence each other.
