What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
Who doesn’t want to live forever or at least very long? Life is sweet, and it’s very hard to part with it.
Thanks to the development of medicine, many people can live a long life, especially when no hereditary diseases are in their family.
My thoughts about a long life are positive only when it is guaranteed that I will have good, strong health and can serve myself for all routine necessities one human has. And I mean with strong physical health, also having all my marbles in the right place.
I’ve noticed many, not only very old but also some people who are at the beginning of aging, start to have dementia. Dementia is a terrible neurological disease; although there exists a medication that can hold it under control, it’s very tough to take care of people with dementia; they need a 24h nursing.
So, I wish for a long life only when I’m very clear in my head and can take care of myself alone. On the other hand, what is long? 80 years, 90 years, 100 years?
If you live a life that is too long, wouldn’t it eventually get boring? Aren’t there alternatives? These two questions trigger curiosity about what exists on the other side of life. Is there an afterlife? How is it, if there’s one? And how do we get there?
Examining it from a more abstract point of view, we can discuss two ways of immortality: the one here on earth, the physical one we don’t want to leave, and the spiritual one, the unknown. Which one would you prefer?
I think that’s another part of a long discussion…
