What is the greatest gift someone could give you?
The greatest gift for me certainly wonβt be a luxury car, super-expensive jewelry, or anything similar since I have a plain, humble approach to these items.
Anyway, the perfect gift for me would be Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s diaries. The publisher, J.B. Metzler, has a special historical-critical edition (I think itβs around 10 volumes) of Goetheβs diaries, and I dream of having them in my library.
I already have Goetheβs correspondence with Schiller, which includes around a thousand letters, so his diaries would be a great addition to my library.
Generally, books are perfect for me. I love books. Books are like the mother’s milk for babies to me. I need books because reading books nurtures me to grow spiritually. It helps me widen my horizons and experience different cultures and lives. Reading opens the door to another world.
In short: Gift me a book, and you give me the world.
