What colleges have you attended?
I’m a latecomer when it comes to tertiary education.
After my primary school education, I completed an apprenticeship in commercial in the wholesale and foreign trade, all this education in Germany.
Then, I moved to Greece, and after a couple of years, I was accepted at the University of Athens. The exact name of the University is “National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. ” The department was the German Department at the Philosophical School.
I remember the 23rd Global Congress of Philosophy being held at my school during my studies. Two very famous philosophers, Umberto Eco and Jürgen Habermas, participated in and spoke at the congress. I was so excited, but unfortunately, I had to work on the day they had their presentation. Lucky me!!!!
After I finished my bachelor’s in Athens, I started my Master’s program at the University of Thessaloniki immediately the following semester. I could have done it in Athens, but I chose Thessaloniki, which is the second largest city in Greece after Athens. The University’s name is “Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.” Again, it was the German Department at the Philosophical School. That’s the reason why, next to literature, I love Philosophy so much.
I chose this master’s program in Thessaloniki because I wanted to dive deeper into literature. The difference between Aristotle University and the Kapodistrian is that in Thessaloniki, they worked more with modern contemporary literature and, furthermore, international literature. I remember I had to make a presentation on the book „The Impressionist“ by Hari Kunzru, which dealt with colonialism. Hari Kunzru is a British Novelist and Journalist. Also, at Aristotle University, we extensively researched different philosophical directions, such as the theories of the Frankfurt School. Significant figures of that school are Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, Herbert Marcuse, and Jürgen Habermas.
By the end of my master’s, I wanted to make a doctorate in philosophy, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.
