Not Famous

Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met?

Being famous means being known or recognized by many people. In previous decades, someone famous should have stood out with his talent and work not just once but also proved himself over the years, delivering high-quality work and impacting society.

Nowadays, it’s easy to become famous like the influencers on Instagram, TikTok, and other social media. Actors and actresses are playing only one role and are already touching the high sky, etc., thanks to marketing strategies and promoting designer labels.

For that, I’ve noticed that the sense of fame has developed into something very extreme. I want to say that, especially nowadays, the young generation identifies themselves with their idols very profoundly, to the point of apotheosis. At this point, I want to underline that not all young people tend to have this inclination.

However, when I read on social media how they refer to their idol, characterizing them as he’s the King, she’s the Queen, prince, or princess, or recently I read on Instagram that fans called their idol an actor, I won’t say his name; he’s very young, almost 30 years old. But they called him a legend.

Well, I am wondering what we should call then Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, who are almost 60 years old in the acting business.

You may have realized that I’m not very fond of quickly identifying people as famous. On the contrary, I tend to view people generally from an equal standpoint, even when I see them in movies, series, newspapers, and glossy magazines.

Back to today’s question, I have met many people, but I would call them more known than famous people, like actors, singers, show hosts, and politicians. I lived in Athens for many years and worked in the center of Athens, where these people frequently hang around. Anyway, that wasn’t something crucial for me.

Thank you. I’m glad you found my point of view interesting. I think it’s urgent time for us to revalue our values, especially those of the people we admire and have as role models and give our support. Predominantly, the next generation must be more careful and considerate about this theme. 🙂

It’s a hard sell, so long as we define identity by possessions. Hm. I wrote a post for this prompt, using it as a way to talk about a figure in science, but you’ve got me thinking. Maybe the whole framework of fame is just wrong. ❤
