Family goals

What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

I haven’t reached my ultimate goal so far, which is obviously why it is hard to achieve. This goal is to start and create my own family. A family that goes through happy, sad, and hard times, but despite that, it holds strong together with unconditional love. A family, as Aristotle once said, is the most minor form of society.

Nowadays, it isn’t easy to find a partner you can share your life and goals and have children together. Especially regarding having kids, which is a huge responsibility, I think someone should beforehand discuss with his partner if he wants children and, when yes, how he imagines raising them.

I have witnessed how a friend of mine got married after a long relationship with her husband. As soon as their child was born, she realized they had totally different perceptions of raising a child. Due to this disagreement, their marriage suffers till today.

Another point is that our society has developed in a not very child-friendly direction. By that, I don’t mean from the government side or laws, but how other parents raise their children.

Lately, here in Greece, the violence between children and teenagers increased immensely. Yesterday, I heard on TV that two 5-year-old children hit another 5-year-old child with Down syndrome. They hit him so severely that they broke his teeth.

I noticed parents don’t show interest in what their children are doing in their free time. What circle of friends are they moving in? What kind of music do they hear? Who are their idols? What do they watch on their smartphones? Etc. All these factors shape how they see and receive the world and, as a result, influence their behavior.

Here, I return to the first point and my unachieved goal: It’s very hard to find a partner with whom you can be best friends, lovers, and co-workers and share the enormous responsibility of raising a child. However, I’m convinced everything happens at the right time, and my cherished goal will be granted.

PS: Regarding co-workers, this may sound weird to some of you, but in my view, both partners must put in effort and work to keep a relationship or marriage working.
