Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.
They are not precisely athletes but pilots; according to the sport, they are active, were active. I use the past tense because one doesn’t live anymore, and the other retired long ago.
The first one is Ayrton Senna, a Formel 1 driver. Why do I admire him? I think I watched a life documentary about him on Netflix one year ago. While watching it, I realized that he had devoted himself entirely to that sport and tried to make it better and safer for all drivers. But he didn’t want only to improve the sport he loved but also the world of his people in Brazil; he cared especially about the children and made huge donations. Furthermore, he was a deeply religious person and regularly read verses from the bible, which is understandable considering he risked his life by driving his Formula 1 car. Unfortunately, fatedly, he died after a crash during the San Marino Grand Prix 1994 in Imola. Precisely on the curve, many times, he had mentioned that it was too dangerous, and something should be done.
The other athlete-pilot is Michael Schumacher. Like Senna, he had devoted himself to this sport. He wasn’t just a driver; he had immense knowledge about cars. Therefore, he often stayed up late at night with the mechanic’s staff to improve his car. Being one of the best athletes in the world and the best driver, this success didn’t go to his head; he stayed humble. He didn’t show off his wealth or participate in these famous parties where celebrities gathered. He was devoted to the sport of Formel 1 and his family. Unfortunately, fate also knocked at his door when he had a ski accident many years ago during his vacation.
I stopped watching Formel 1 because drivers like Senna and Schumacher are missing. Nowadays, Formel 1 drivers lack the knowledge and spirit these old drivers had. Today, the main part of the job is done by technology, engineers, and technicians.
