Educational Value

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

Indeed, I can remember, and actually, I had 3 favorites.

The one was Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, or as we said in Germany, Pippi Langstrumpf. The other one was Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner, and the last was Bibi Blocksberg by Elfie Donelly; I even had some audio cassettes from Bibi Blocksberg.

As for Pippi Longstocking, I watched the TV series and didn’t miss one episode. Another children’s show I liked to watch was Emil of Lonneberga or, in German, Michel aus Lönneberga; it first was a book series also written by Astrid Lindgren.

Astrid Lindgren’s books are all-time classics, and I think many generations grew up with her stories. They are simple but pedagogically valuable.

I don’t want to be a princess; I want to be a pirate!

We did Pippi Longstocking as a book study in primary school! I remember that the teacher made it incredibly fun. Thank you for reminding me of this.

When I was younger I really liked The Lord of the Rings and also Asterix and Obelix.
