How has technology changed your job?
Well, I think I can say that technology hasn’t just changed our jobs but has fundamentally changed life itself. Since I haven’t held just one specific job, I’ve changed jobs many times in my life; that makes it impossible for me to answer the question properly, so I will use a life pattern that once existed before technology developed significantly.
I’ve mentioned many times that I was born and raised in Germany, but still, we had many relatives living in Greece. Our communication was usually by letter or telephone. At least over the phone, we could hear their voices, which gave a sense of closeness, but you still couldn’t see their faces, how they looked, or how they had changed; little kids had grown up.
Considering how we communicate today, there are video calls, thanks to technology. No matter how far the person you want to talk to and see, it’s now possible. Means the feeling of intimacy is stronger, which further makes that missing less painful.
In this case, technological progress has given us a huge gift. However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be careful about how and to what extent we use technology, since it also contains many risks.
