What historical event fascinates you the most?
Well, world history has many historical events, and according to nationality, some events hold a special place in the heart. As an example, I would like to mention the French Revolution. This revolution not only had an impact on the construction of the French society. But this revolution triggered other revolutionary movements across Europe and America. So, this revolution has significant meaning for the French people and for the rest of the world.
As for the historical event that fascinates me the most, I chose the Greek War of Independence from 1821. It was a war that had opponents before it started. One of the opponents was the Orthodox Church. It sounds wild, but it was so. One reason for me is that I have the attitude that religion shouldn’t mingle with politics.
However, the independence war started, thanks to the courageous Greeks from that time. This was from Greeks within the Ottoman Empire, because they couldn’t bear the weight of Ottoman rule anymore. They craved to be free. This war lasted from 1821 to 1829. On 21 July 1832, the boundaries of the New Greek Kingdom were set by the Treaty of Constantinople. In other words, it was the birth of the Greek state. But we celebrate our Independence Day every year on 25 March; it’s the day when Bishop Germanos raised the flag of revolution, which also coincides with the Feast of Annunciation.
Well, during preparations for the revolution, the church changed its attitude when it realized the revolution couldn’t be stopped and was about to break out.
