Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

My first name is Vasiliki, which is a Greek name. In short form, they call me Vaso.
This name has a female and male version; the female version is Vasiliki, and the male is Vasili / Vasilios.
The female name derives from the male. Vasilios is etymologically related to Vasilefs (Βασιλεύς), which means King, furthermore, one who comes from the base, elected from the folk.
The literal translation of the female name is royal, meaning someone has royal attributes, such as royal architecture, royal family, royal church, etc.
This analysis of my name is based on the ancient Greek language.
There’s also a religious connection, aside from the ancient Greek interpretation. We Greeks are used to naming our children after saints. The reason for that tradition is the saint you are named after serves you then as a guardian angel.
My protecting angel/saint is Basil, the Great Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia. He lived from 330 to 379 and is famous for his theological writing and guidelines about monastic life. Basil the Great holds an important place in the Orthodox Church. He’s one of the Three Hierarchs of Education; the other two are Saint John Chrysostom and Saint Gregory the Theologian.
His day of death is the 1st of January, which is automatically when I celebrate my name day.
