Return to the Future

What makes you feel nostalgic?

Nostalgia: a Greek word consisting of nostos (homecoming), a Homeric word possibly from his epic Odyssey, and algos (pain).

The Encyclopedia Britannica gives the following interpretation regarding Nostalgia:

Nostalgia is an affectionate and often sentimental feeling experienced when remembering past times, places, and experiences, especially those with happy personal associations. The feeling may also connote a desire to return to past times and places or wish that they could be experienced again.

To Britannica’s definition, I would also add that one doesn’t necessarily have to be happy to get nostalgic, and you don’t only remember the happy moments.

What makes me nostalgic?

Well, life itself, with its sorrows and hardships, makes me nostalgic. Because of this, nostalgia is a constant feeling for me. Furthermore, when I’m in that state, I not only return to remember the past but also visualize the possible future. In the latter case, the pain, not the homecoming, comes to the fore. This procedure is exactly a component of my creativity.
