Less Dystopia

What could you do less of?

I could do less of listening to war and crisis news on the news channel.

War in Ukraine, war in Gaza, war in Israel, war in Lebanon, war in Syria, and who knows where else but are overshadowed by the more significant conflicts.

There are also other political crises, like snap elections in Germany and the French government’s ouster in a no-confidence vote. We are talking about the two biggest economies in the European Union here, so things are not looking great.

Not to forget, In South Korea, the President tried to establish a dictatorship, good that it lasted only a few hours. Thanks to the Korean people who were standing bravely against it.

Listening to this kind of news every day makes you realize that the world has gone crazy and is unstoppable, spinning around in the same rhythm and dystopic mood. It’s a feeling that something more worse is simmering under the surface, and soon, it will explode and pull all into the abyss. This development tempts you to have the urge to shut down and live in your own Lalala Land.

So, for sure, I could do less hearing war and crisis news.

It is so crazy that people still engage in all these pointless, bloody, and cruel wars in our time, when these conflicts could be resolved economically or through the use of media/propaganda alone (cold war-like style). It is crazy that people go to kill their neighbors and family members and think it is honorable.

I come and stand at every door
But no one hears my silent tread
I knock and yet remain unseen
For I am dead, for I am dead.

I’m only seven although I died
    In Hiroshima long ago
I’m seven now as I was then
When children die they do not grow.

My hair was scorched by swirling flame
My eyes grew dim, my eyes grew blind
Death came and turned my bones to dust
And that was scattered by the wind.

I need no fruit, I need no rice I
need no sweet, nor even bread
I ask for nothing for myself
For I am dead, for I am dead.

All that I ask is that for peace
You fight today, you fight today
So that the children of this world
May live and grow and laugh and play.

This poem hits the nail about how much disastrous damage a war can cause to children. We should never forget children represent our future. 😥

It’s so hard to even opt out, now. By opting out, I don’t mean all the time, because I do believe we should be basically in touch and able to respond in ways we are actually able to, but the reality distortion machines are too much! It’s a fire hose all the time, and every ‘side’ has something to hide.

I think what’s most sad to me these days, is that it isn’t a given that we as humans want a peaceful world. If there is profit to be made from war and chaos, many want that and are happy to live with brutality. It’s more than cynical.

I agree with you on all points. It seems that everything has ended up being seen as profitable, even freedom and human life itself.

Sorry to agree with your general assessment of things. All we can hope is that there’s a lot we’re not seeing as well, that can help us course correct and recover.
