What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?
During secondary school in Germany, in the 7th class, and according to the educational program, we visited the career orientation center; I remember we also took tests to know our inclinations. My result was that I had an orientation in the commercial profession. So, after I finished school, I started an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant. The company I worked for was specialized in printing supplies for large printing companies, such as newspapers. Our assortment included printing colors, solvents, large printing machines, stack cutters, and everything else a printing company needs. It was an office job, and I liked it; above all, the colleagues were very kind.
Well, in Germany, the apprenticeships lasted three years, and close to the end, I started to feel unfulfilled; I pondered about moving away from Germany but didn’t dare to make the final move. Then, after I had finished my apprenticeship, I began to work in a publishing company in the order processing department. Thinking about it, I should have become aware, at that time, of my upcoming immense love for writing and books.
When I consider it now, if I had stayed with my first option, my life wouldn’t have had that big shift, and I would have missed significant experiences, such as studying in Greece and becoming a German teacher and writer.
Under the line, I never regret any decision I made, even if it was bad, because I believe we must go through some hardships to grow in the direction we should develop. As we evolve, we change. As I did, I moved from a typical office job to a completely different state-of-mind job, approaching things and life creatively.
