Nostalgia

Do you remember life before the internet?

Yes, and I remember very well, and sometimes I get nostalgic.

One has to admit that the internet has brought many advantages to society, such as making communication easier with people worldwide. Moreover, thanks to the internet, specific working processes have been simplified, allowing for faster completion, which furthermore raised productivity. So, we can speak of positive economic evolution and rapid social modernization.

On the other hand, the point I get nostalgic about is that the internet alienated people from each other. Back then, when people gathered, they intensively talked to each other and exchanged information and ideas. Today, one reaches out to his smartphone every five minutes to scroll through his social media accounts. Or during a gig you can notice that instead to enjoy and live the moment of the concert together with others around you, people pull out their smart phones to record it.

So, we can see that the internet has pushed us over our borders by bringing us closer to people with different cultures and backgrounds, but at the same time, it has also pulled us away from our close surrounding environment. Under the line, the internet has created a pull-push relationship in our general environment, where we now must find the balance.
