Lock in

How do you balance work and home life?

Well, I’m working from home. That has its pros and cons.

The most significant advantage is that you can manage your time as you need it. But on the other hand, this makes it hard to maintain balance, which is a disadvantage.

It’s hard not to get distracted by unexpected occurrences at home. For example, you may need to go to the post office and think it will take only half an hour, and definitely it will take longer. Another thought that creeps into the minds of the family members you live with is when they see you at home and think you are available to do errands or help them with some errands. So, they send you off, telling you it won’t take long, but actually, until you finish the morning over.

I try very hard to keep my work routine strictly apart from my home life. I manage this by setting goals to finish specific taskwork at the end of the day. Furthermore, I lock myself in the office at home and don’t let others enter and disturb me. The only exceptions are emergencies.
