Chance for a different life

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

I wouldn’t call it not taking action, but maintaining perserverence.

It was when I finished my bachelor’s degree at the University of Athens. I could have stayed in Athens, as I had the chance to do my Master’s studies there and also had a job. But after four years of hard studying, working in a hotel reception in the center of Athens, and a fast-flowing routine, I felt exhausted. I worked seven days a week on a 14-day holiday in summer, so, with all that pressure, I wished only to flee. Then, finishing my studies, I decided to return to my hometown, live there, and do my Master’s in Thessaloniki, as I could commute two times a week.

After one year had passed and I had acclimated, I started to regret my decision to move away from Athens. I realized that I actually liked the way of life in Athens. It was more cultural and exciting, with many more opportunities than life in the province.

What I would do differently is clench my teeth to show patience and persistence and stay in Athens. If I had chosen this option, my life would have taken a different course, maybe a much better one. I think about it every now and then, but that’s life. At that time, I thought this was the better choice. Anyway, I believe everything happens for one reason.
