If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?
If I could be a character from a movie or book, I would like to be Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. The reason is:
According to my interpretation, Mr. Darcy is the one who has the utmost character development in the book or movie.
-Why?
He jumps over his shadow in the name of love.
-Where do we see that?
He has a high status in society but falls in love with Elizabeth, who doesn’t have a high rank since her father doesn’t have a son who will inherit the family’s property. Mr. Darcy, despite knowing the background, falls in love, but he holds his prejudices and predominately his pride due to his rank as a shield for protection. On the contrary, Elizabeth has prejudices towards Mr. Darcy precisely because of his behavior. However, after some misunderstandings, here comes the point: Mr. Darcy ignores any obligation and responsibility toward his social position, jumps over his shadow, and confesses his love to her. But as we know, she dumps him.
But Mr. Darcy wouldn’t be Mr. Darcy if he gave up so quickly. He patiently waits to prove himself for his sincere feelings. And he gets his chance when he protects Elizabeth’s family from a big scandal. Of course, someone will think he does it for his advantage; the essence is that he does it because he overcomes his prejudices and pride for love, even if he doesn’t know that he will have any positive response. That’s true love.
Anyway, we know that Elizabeth’s awakening moment and final transformation comes when she finds out about Mr. Darcy’s silent help. She disregards any threats from Mr. Darcy’s aunt because, hello, hello, she actually was in love with Mr. Darcy a long time ago. So, after all, Elizabeth also jumps over her shadow and confesses loudly her love for Mr. Darcy. All’s well that ends well.
I want to underline that I like Mr. Darcy as a character since he makes the most progress. He disregards his position for society for love, and despite being rejected, he stays loyal to his feelings for Elizabeth and doesn’t bear a grudge against Elizabeth. On the contrary, he proves his love again and finally gets the girl. So, we see it is essential to take risks in life for love despite not knowing the result to experience true love and happiness.
Here is my favorite scene:
